Why ride a heavy adventure bike in the dunes of Atlantis? Well it's pretty fun for one. The real reason though is that I recently made some tweaks to my suspension setup and needed a place to test it out. Seemed a good excuse to take out the old girl for some sand riding.
I arrived around 10:00 on a Saturday winter's morning and it was as busy as I'd remembered it. There were a number of quad bikes, some dirt bikes and spades of 4x4s - didn't spot another adventure bike though.
I deflated my tires to what I imagined was about right and hit the dunes. Not too bad although I'd have deflated my rear tire slightly more in hindsight.
We're heading into Winter so there's been some rain the last few weeks which meant that the sand was at least semi-compacted and not too fine. I did however notice it becoming progressively looser throughout the afternoon as temperatures rose.
