Back in July 2022 we shipped our van from the UK to Canada, knowing we had to wait out the winter before we could begin our journey north to Alaska, where we would pick up the Pan American Highway in Prudhoe Bay, before following it south to the most southerly point of The Americas - Ushuaia in Argentina. After spending the winter in the Southern US and Baja, Mexico, we left Utah in March 2023, with 3600 miles lying between us and Prudhoe Bay in Alaska.
The journey north has taken us through alien landscapes of red rock, hot springs hidden in boreal forest, past wild wood bison and a beautiful black bear just out of hibernation. As we've followed the legendary Alaska Highway, we've had snowstorms, blizzards on mountain passes and two cracked windscreens. Views so vast and beautiful they hurt your eyes.
But this is just the beginning. In fact, this is the end of the beginning, as we finally cross the border into Alaska. Prudhoe Bay now lies a mere 600 miles away, down the infamous Dalton Highway. Who's ready for the ride?
