Following the philosophical experiment of Revolver, Guy Ritchie went back to what he does best: London gangsters, dark humor, and a killer soundtrack.
It was supposed to be the start of a trilogy, but the promise of The Real RocknRolla died as its cast (Tom Hardy, Idris Elba, and Gerard Butler) became too expensive for a sequel.
The production was chaotic and brilliant. The role of Handsome Bob was originally written for Jason Statham, the Russian billionaire villain mirrors real-life oligarch Roman Abramovich, and the unique sex scene was improvised simply because Gerard Butler had a throat infection. This is the history of the cult classic that captured the madness of modern London real estate and rock and roll.
