Warner Bros wanted a massive six-film universe. Instead, they got a $175 million cocktail of The Lord of the Rings and Snatch. Guy Ritchie stripped away the classic myths, transforming King Arthur into a street racketeer.
Charlie Hunnam fought for the lead role by doing 1,000 pushups a day and studying UFC champion Conor McGregor. The production built a massive Roman London and forged 40 Excaliburs, only to end up with a 3.5-hour cut that literally put the director to sleep.
A crippling casting mistake forced two months of frantic editing. Delayed for a year, the film became one of the biggest box office bombs of the decade. It killed the franchise plan but cemented its place as an undeniable cult classic among Ritchie fans.
